Arts Downtown PR planned June 16
NEWS RELEASE
Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council
Arts Downtown PR planned June 16
The Arts Downtown PR series will continue from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16 in downtown Park Rapids.
Enjoy Natalie Roy’s stylings on the piano from 5 to 5:30 and 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Bella Caffè, 116 3rd Street West.
Dawn Rossbach, member of the Menahga Arts Guild and Menahga School art instructor, will show her art work at The Good Life Cafe from 5 to 7 p.m. From 5:30 to 6 p.m., Sandra Perez will give a presentation on the Art of Making Goat Cheese and from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Eric Bervig, aka Chasing Clarence, will play his original blend of folk jazz at The Good Life Cafe, 220 South Main Ave.
The Arc in Bemidji will bring “Opening Doors…” to Blank Canvas Gallery & Education Center. This art project was conceived, designed, named and painted by 25 adults with developmental disabilities. The two-sided mural is painted on re-purposed interior doors and signifies the desire to open doors to all people in all aspects of their lives regardless of their abilities. The front of the mural depicts love of Minnesota. Individual collage art is centered around the collectively chosen theme of power and each interpreted power in collage form. The back of the mural shows the many emotions that are a part of life with a disability and were chosen during design for their variety of shapes, colors and features, representing the diversity of people including people with disabilities. Participants in this art project are from Park Rapids, Nevis, Bemidji, Mahnomen, Shevlin and Bagley. Blank Canvas Gallery & Education Center is located at 311 South Main Ave.
Arts Downtown PR is designed to bring audiences to see and hear visual artists, musicians, writers and other artists in businesses in downtown Park Rapids on the Third Thursday of the month year round. The public is invited to attend and encouraged to make a free will donation to the artists. Contact Lu Ann Hurd-Lof at 652-4081, luann47@gmail.com.
This activity is funded, in part, by the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008.

June 2011 Summer is Here - Ready or not!
June 2011
Summer is here - ready or not
Whether you and your family want to play on the water all day or just relax and hang out together, the Park Rapids lakes area is the place to stay this summer.
Daylight extends well after 9 p.m. as the summer solstice nears so there is plenty of time to play on the water. Fishing, pontoon picnics, canoeing, tubing, water skiing and other activities draw visitors to the area’s lakes and rivers.c
If water sport isn’t your thing, there are hundreds of other ways to immerse yourself in the north woods: biking, hiking, ATV riding, exploring parks and trails. At Itasca State Park, you can walk across the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River as it flows out of Lake Itasca on its 2,552-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Park naturalist programs invite learning more about the area’s flora and fauna, history and geological wonders.
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber website suggests varied itineraries for a day or two or three. Check them out if you are looking for unique experiences on your visit.
The website calendar guides you to local events and festivals. Summer theater and other entertainment are available during a stay. You also will find unique shopping and great places to eat morning, noon and night.
If you have never stayed here for a 4th of July weekend, a slice of Americana awaits with an old-fashioned parade, band concert on the river, unforgettable fireworks display and more.
Or plan a visit to coincide with the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber’s premier summer event - Legends & Logging Days. At a new location that will provide more space for activities, Legends & Logging Days brings world champion and world record-breaking lumberjacks and lumberjills to compete in wood chopping and sawing contests. Master chainsaw sculptors create north woods masterpieces. And many other events are planned to educate and entertain visitors.
Resorts and other lodging accommodations in the Park Rapids area provide guests with an experience like no other and will help you realize your dream vacation whether it’s lying on the beach with a good book, venturing out to learn more about the local flora and fauna or timing a stay to take in local festivals or cultural events.
The Park Rapids area welcomes you.
